Welcome to Universal Aviation's SMS Program
Universal Aviation (UA) intends to support, comply with, and, wherever possible, exceed all legislative and regulatory requirements and standards regarding safety and health. We will provide our employees and customers a safe and secure working and traveling environment through the development of a corporate safety culture in all of our activities. We recognize the importance and value of effective aviation safety management and quality and acknowledge at all times that safety is paramount.
Universal Aviation believes that safety is a core business and personal value. The objective of safety is to support the Company’s mission by helping protect vital resources. We will achieve this through the establishment of a Safety Management System which includes a strong risk management and assurance strategy. Once unsafe acts and/or conditions are identified they will be eliminated or mitigated to as low as reasonably practicable. All levels of management are accountable for safety performance, and toward that end, safety performance will be an important part of our management/employee evaluation system. Management will support regular safety audits, both internal and external. These audits will focus on the behavior of people, the systems in place that are used to conduct work, and the actual conditions of the workplace. We will address any deficiencies that are identified during the audit process.
Universal's Safety Management System is described in the Universal Aviation SMS manual and will be supported by a policy statement signed by the Accountable Executive. The Head of International Safety has been appointed and will be responsible for management of the program and will head up the Safety Services Office supported by the Regional Safety Managers for the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions.
Personnel shall accept responsibility and accountability for their own behavior and actions in the workplace. Personnel will have an opportunity to participate in developing safety standards and procedures and will be recognized and rewarded for flight, ground and maintenance safety performance. We will communicate information about safety incidents and share the lessons learned with colleagues.
